Murray Grey

Murray Grey cattle originated in the Murray River region of Australia, as a result of a chance mating between a particular Shorthorn cow and an Angus bull in the early 20th century.

The cow gave birth to 12 “grey” calves from different Angus bulls. It was quickly discovered that the “grey” offspring had desirable genetic features.

A systematic breeding program resulted in the recognition of this new breed in Australia in 1962.

Today this breed has spread to many continents, there are successful breeding programs in the United States, Canada, New Zeeland and South America. The breed has become a main participant in the international beef market due to its superb value indicators, and the excellent, marbled meat quality.
